An Exchange with Psyonix (more backstory)
More backstory: before we started researching how to actually properly play RL, we had this feeling that we we're being punked. I was constantly complaining that there was no way that these people were the same rank as me. I started to understand that I sucked and didn't really know what I was doing, but still, something else was going on. And then I stumbled on that glorious term, "SMURFING."See, I'm not a competition gamer, I just like to play for fun. I am actually a disabled Prof. of Comparative Literature, Philosophy, Lit., Criticism, who struggles with Rheumatoid Arthritis, among other diseases. Anyway, so, gaming is something I can do intermittently. Back to my realization.
I type in 'Rocket League, Smurfing' and OMG. It's not in my head, its for reals, and I was, again, clueless. Just around that time, Psyonix had reached out to Youtube Professional Players, and told them they needed to stop smurfing for views. Yet, does Psyonix do enough, no. They could be so much more proactive, so many open boosting sites, smurfing videos, and so on. Instead they put it on the gamer to report people in-game, to which many a smurf will ff, somehow thinking its okay to smurf you if they don't win? Not really. And they throw matches not out of the kindness of their hearts, because you tried so hard and played so well, NO, they do it to rank down. This is a mad TOXIC game. Anyway, what psyonix seems overly concerned with is toxic language. They are all about language, just like Twitch or some Discords. Its sad, because its not the toxic txt that bothers me as much as its the toxic behaviors of throwing games, not playing, fighting your teammate, rage quitting, and so on, and yes there are lame bans, that players get, like small time outs, that really do little do curb anything. Its psyonix couldn't invest in a cognitive behavioral psychologist for that aspect of the game, but I bet they have one on payroll for marketing.
That being said, I got banned for "Idling". I have the game recorded on ballchaing.com, and I was not Idling, I did only have one other teammate the entire tournament
, which is about right for these jank tournaments that I am now recording, and will be compiling into the jank tournaments of RL. Because at my level, there are almost always smurfs, but this is what rubs me wrong. Psyonix can't even be bothered to read my ticket, and they will do nothing to make it right with me for wasting my time, banning me wrongly, and in general just sucking at providing a quality gaming experience. They just don't seem to care as long as the money comes in. But they pretend to care, so let's try and hold their feet to the fire on this, here is my exchange with them, showing them totally missing the point and being rather useless.
